What kinds of abdominal pain are there?

Abdominal pain can occur with an illness such as an intestinal infection (with diarrhea and vomiting), for example, or with appendicitis.

But abdominal pain often has another cause:

If you feel well but still have abdominal pain, it can be caused by constipation. The stool is then so hard that it has trouble coming out. The bowel is then too full and that hurts.

Reasons for abdominal pain in children

Abdominal pain can also be triggered by stress, anxiety or problems in school. The tension is carried over to the bowels, which tense up and then hurt. Often you don’t notice the tension, but just the abdominal pain.
