CRPS – Complex regional pain syndrome
Synonyms used for CRPS are reflex dystrophy, morbus sudeck, sudeck dystrophy, algodystrophy or sympathetic reflex dystrophy.
CRPS is a special kind of chronic pain condition. CRPS is triggered in childhood and adolescence mostly by minor injuries such as a sprained foot, but also by serious injuries. With time pain arises in the affected area, for example, the foot or hand, that can be so severe that even the passage of air over the area can be perceived as intolerable. At the same time, the affected body part is clearly swollen and visible skin changes occur.
Therapy for CRPS
The German Children’s Pain Center has developed a multi-modal concept of therapy that has proved itself over time. Fortunately, we are able to completely do without the use of strong pain medications or invasive methods such as injecting anesthetics into nerve plexuses. Our approach is especially suited to the needs of children and adolescents, and focuses on the biopsychosocial causes of illness.
